Cold Iron's Sins

Midnight Snake Bite

Kiwi knew that she had a chance to cut into the Cold Iron Kingdoms ranks when she found out that a sergeant would be attending a Feywild Fighting Federation event, she just needed a plan. She went into the forest, nature had been her ally before, why not now? After hours of searching, she found a cottonmouth snake in the grass, and was able to speak to it. After a promise of food and shelter, the snake agreed to help Kiwi with her plan.

While Kiwi was about in the wilderness, doing whatever it is she does, Dith was preparing for her fight. Her "Performance" a week ago against the professional fighters of the FFF was good enough to land a title fight tonight, and she wanted to be prepared. This was the first time that Dith had had any kind of opportunity to win something based on fighting prowess, she did not want to waste it. She knew that she might have an advantage in the fight. Her friend Haustin had managed to impress enough to achieve his dream of fighting in the FFF, so this was no 1 on 1, this was a triple threat.

The fight began like your average FFF fight would. Light punches here and there to try and feel out the distance needed to land the heavy ones. While this was happening Kiwi was sitting in the crowd, about 40 or so rows away from the sergeant and his soldiers. They were cheering and drinking, having a good time. Kiwi's hatred of the Cold Iron Kingdom did not let her develop any sort of empathy, they were the enemy, and this was her chance.

She puled the snake out of her bag. "I need you to sneak over and get in his bag, then wait until nightfall, and come out and bite him." The snake, seemingly tired and full from some Dire Rat meat that was given by Kiwi earlier, agreed, then slithered on toward the Sergeant. Kiwi returned to watching her sister perform, hoping that no one would notice.

Dith was trying to be the aggressor to the champion, Superior Vulture, in the early goings of the match. She figured that it would be fun to have a show down between her and her half-orc friend. Superior Vulture proved to be an overwhelming force of an opponent however, countering strikes, parrying, and landing shot after shot. Soon Dith found herself on the defense, backpedaling further and further. Haustin decided to step in the moment that he thought he was out of Vultures range of sight. He took a calculated risk, but boy is he bad at math, and was met with a kick to the stomach that sent him reeling. Something was wrong with Haustin, that kick landed something fierce, he began Coughing blood and fell to his knees as he tried to recover. Dith knew that she was on her own with Vulture for the time being.

Vulture, with Haustin incapacitated, assumed that this was going to be an easy title defense, and began playing with the already beaten Dith.

Dith could only block a punch or kick every now and then, and even then, she was so weak that the block only cushioned the damage. Dith instead resorted to dodging and positioning. She figured that if she could buy herself time, that Haustin may be able to recover and start fighting, allowing her to recover. Dith began positioning herself in awkward to reach positions for a human like Vulture to be able to strike out at. Places that a gnome like Dith had no problem striking. Soon Dith began landing punches of her own. Hamstring, knees, stomach, hips, Dith assaulted all the key joints she could to try and bring Culture down to her level, then the fight could be on her terms.

During Dith's offensive, she began peering at Haustin every now and then to see if he was fully recovered or not. She saw that Haustin still looked gravely injured. I could end this fight right now, Dith figured. With Haustin out of the fight, and Vulture on the defense, it was finally her that had the upper hand here. She pushed the pace.

Vulture noticed Dith looking at Haustin, and figured that she was calculating whether or not she could finish him off before Haustin recovered. His suspicions were confirmed once Dith began pressing the assault even harder. Vulture knew that he out matched Dith at this speed, and he just needed to buy his time and wait for the right opportunity to strike. The first mistake came shortly after Dith began her assault. A misplaced punch allowed Vulture to put a knee into Diths ribcage. This made Dith adjust, but keep fighting. Vulture knew that he had done some sort of major damage maybe some internal bleeding or a broken rib.

Dith was breathing heavily now, she knew that something was wrong, but she had to press on, this was her only chance now. She landed a strike on Vultures knee that dropped him. She had him where she had been trying to get him for seemingly ages. She reared back and went for a punch aimed at Vultures temple. This is it, this will surely knock him out.

While it is true that Diths strike to the knee had made Vulture stagger, He fell to his knee on his own accord. This brouht Dith in, this gave her hope, this is what Vulture wanted. The second before Dith's strike had caught Vulture on the temple, he jolted his head backward. Dith had not been expecting this, and she had overcommitted on the strike, pushing her off balance. Thats when she made her worst mistake.

Some misplaced footing was all Vulture needed out of Dith. He was able to land a punch on the side of Diths knee joint, and crack it. Dith screamed and fell to her knees. The pain was severe, and the feeling of bone against bone in her leg was uncomfortable. This would be the final mistake she made that night, not defending.

Vulture leaped over and landed several clean strikes on Dith, some to the head, and some to the body. Even before the assault had ended, Dith was unconcious.Vulture had done it. I won, Vulture thought, I am the best! This, ironically, was Vultures fatal mistake, as this was not a 1 on 1 match, it was a triple threat match.

Vulture was unconcious before he even hit the ground, which comes as no surprise however, considering Haustins punch sent him in the air.

Haustin, coughing up blood and hobbled, was crowned champion of the FFF, this was his dream, he had achieved it.

After the fight, the fighters paid visits to the FFF's Clerics for healing. luckily Dith's knee was only broken, an easy fix for a skilled Cleric. Dith was able to walk out of the stadium under her own power.

The next morning, Kiwi and Dith had heard some shocking news. The sergeant had lived through the venom, and was pulling through. They learned that he was at his hotel room, under close guard. The news claimed that the Cold Iron Soldiers believe that this was an assassination attempt, but they were not sure.

Kiwi did not want to leave town until the job was down. The sergeant was the enemy, and they enemy needed to die. Kiwi and Dith decided that they were going to pay the Sergeant a visit under the Guise of Clerics of Gozreh. After some convincing, they wer allowed into the hotel room where they saw an emaciated, pale, and sweating human lay on a bed. Kiwi knew that he would pull through, and informed the guards that hse needed to leave so that she could gather some herbs in order to make a potion to give to the sergeant. The guards obliged, and Kiwi and Dith were off into the forest.

"I need a bottle and some water Dith." Kiwi told her sister, Kiwi knew what she wanted to make, it was just whether she could find the correct ingredients or not. About an hour in, Kiwi spotted a plant with Blue leaves in the shape of droplets of water. She knew this plant to be the Tears of Death plant. It's leaves covered in a poison so potent that it's fatal even if contacted. Using some leather gloves, she was able to get some of the leaves, grind them up, and put them into the bottle of water. She mixed it with some old Dire Rat blood that was in her leather bag. What was created was a strange purple liquid. "This will Work." Kiwi assured herself.

Upon returning to the hotel entrance, Kiwi stopped Dith, "I want you to take this vile of Alchemists fire and go to the side of the building, right outside his room, and when you feel a blessing of Gozreh come over you, I want you to pelt the vile at the wall." Dith agreed to the heinous plot.

Inside the hotel room, Kiwi approached the sergeant. "I need you to lay on your back, don't move, and drink this liquid. It's not going to tasted good, but it will help you." Kiwi requested. The sergeant, completely trusting of Kiwi, agreed, and laid down. Kiwi poured to vile liquid into the mans mouth, and without hesitation, the man swallowed all of it. "I would like to say a prayer to Gozreh, so she may bless all of us." She knelt and began praying, knowing that from this distance, Dith would be blessed as well.

Outside of the hotel, Dith felt a familiar feeling she had come to known as the blessings of Gozreh. She knew that was her cue. She looked at the vile, questioning her morals slightly. Should we really be doing this? He's just a soldier. In spite of her conscious, she reared back and heaved the vile at the wall, which then erupted in a ball of flame. She ran to the entrance, where she awaited her sister.

Kiwi met Dith outside the hotel "We need to go, now." Dith calmly but sternly told Kiwi. They began hustling toward the tree line outside of town. "We need to pick up the pace." Dith said, eyeing behind them. Kiwi looked behind her and noticed 3 Cold Iron Soldiers were pursuing them. They broke into a sprint into the trees. Kiwi, using her knowledge of nature, was able to help Dith deftly maneuver and before they knew it, they had lost sight of the soldiers.

Kiwi and Dith chose a nice spot to rest and heal up. Is this what we are doing now? Killing sick people in cold blood? Dith thought to herself. Regardless of her feelings, she knew that this was Kiwis goal, Kiwi had a special hatred toward the Cold Iron Kingdom, and no amount of morals was going to stop her.

After the Battle of Iomedae, Silas, Fletcher, Rothas, found themselves in a cavern off the coast of the island of Iomedae. They decided that they were going to hide out there for the time being while they figured out what their next move should be.

A few moments of discussing pass, and they decide that they need to infiltrate back into the city to see if there are any surviving ships that they could steal. Before they could launch their plan however, they heard sounds of battle, and the thud of footsteps echoing from the cavern roof above. "Throw him off the ledge!" a female voice laughed. It didn't take long for the promise to follow through, as a man fell face first into the sand below.

Upon further investigation into his figure, Flethcer recognized this man to be Persival, but before greetings could be made, Persival was pounced on by a Paladin of the Iomedae Faithful from above, who was then joined by a comrade.

Albeit outmatched, Persival stood to confront the attackers head on in a final stand.

The adventuring party quickly intervened so as not to let an ally fall, and quickly, the two Paladins were dropped. Soon after the battle, the group noticed another ally hurriedly approaching from the distance, Nalith, and from above the cavern dropped a new ally, Jem, a Cleric of Desna.

With their new companion in the group of survivors, the group observed their surroundings, and noticed a lifeboat of pirates on the shoreline approaching the beach head, and decided to allow them to approach, and observe their behavior. Once the pirates landed on the sand, they began resting and drinking, while fraternizing with each other. The group though it best to keep their heads low throughout, hopefully the group would leave the lifeboat behind, or maybe they could kill the pirates and take the life boat.

After a while, one of the pirates started making his way toward the cavern. During the approach, everyone tried their hand at hiding,  non beside Nalith and Fletcher being successful. Upon noticing the less stealthy of the party members, the pirate drew his firearm and aimed at the party, yelling and ushering for them to leave the cavern immediately, as this was his cavern now. The party members, Silas, Persival, Rothas, and Jem, obeyed and made their way out of the cavern and began travel down the coast line, keeping their eye on the pirates.

At this moment, Fletcher saw an opportunity to take out the pirate right here, he approached and attempted to grab the pirate from behind, but was out-maneuvered in the process, and found himself at the end of a flintlock's barrel. "You leave too! Go on! Get out! Now!" The pirate exclaimed rapidly and excitedly, "I have numbers!". Fletcher decided to attempt and call the pirates bluff, but when the pirate rose his gun in the air, Fletcher saw that the pirate was quite serious about his claim. Fletcher gave in to the pirates demands, leaving the cavern, leaving Nalith as the only one left in the cavern.

After the pirate was sure that he was alone in the cavern, he decided to signal over to the pirates back at the life boat, and they signaled to the ship wreckage near them. 1 approaching pirate became 4, then 8, then 15. Nalith was stuck. Heavily outnumbered, Nalith figured he had no other choice other than revealing himself and hope the pirates were merciful. To his surprise, the pirates were very understanding of the situation, maybe because of friendliness, or maybe because of the circumstances given by the situation. Either way, they offered to share the shelter with Nalith.

During the situation inside of the cavern, an idea struck Persival. The pirates left their life boat unguarded. He relayed this to the rest of he party, and they made way for the boat, getting on, and preparing to set off.

while this happened, someone in the back of the cavern exclaimed, "Someones stealing the lifeboat!" The party had been spotted, and Nalith was in the belly of the beast.

Guns pointed at him, Nalith had to think on his feet, whatever happened next could mean life or death. "Whats that over there!?", Nalith shouted, pointing at the cavern wall. Dumb luck seemed to be on his side at the moment, as all the pirates fixed their attention on the wall, and multiple shots were fired into the stone. Nalith took advantage of the distraction and quickly began a dead-sprint toward the boat.

Once there, Fletcher and Persival began trying to Row, but Persival's previous wounds must have taken hold, because he could not muster the strength. With the pirates approaching, Persival knew that he wasn't worth much on the boat besides dead weight, so he hopped off the boat and positioned himself for one final push. "Persival no!" Fletcher yelled as Persival gave everything he had in one push, sending the row boat out to the sea, allowing the party to escape, leaving Persival behind.

Out at sea, the party fashioned up a sail out of a scythe and a cloak, and Nalith began observing a ring that he had found during Operation Lone Wolf. After learning that it was a very powerful and destructive item from Jem, he decided to put it on. "Hello!", the ring said in his head, "Who are you?" This shocked Nalith for a moment, but he continued the conversation, and it led to the ring gaining control over Nalith and forcing him to touch Fletcher, who the ring then sucked the life out of until unconcious. The ring then demanded that Nalith place the ring on Fletcher, to which Nalith obeyed.

Over time the group was found by a pirate warship, "The Sand Demon", who then picked them up and told them they were going to be sold as slaves at an auction house in Wolf-Water. It was here that the party met back up with Shadow and Miranda, and met pirate lord Pykota's wife, Arran.

During the voyage to Wolf Water, Silas revealed information about the second Dasphemy, something of which Arran did not seem to know, and requested that when they landed at Wolf Water, that Silas stay behind for further discussion.

Once the Sand Demon docked, the party, minus Silas, was escorted to the auction house. There they were held backstage with a lone guard. Fletcher managed to bribe the guard into letting the party leave freely.

Back on the Sand Demon, Silas explained further that there was an alternate version of Dasphemy, and that he was running around somewhere on the Iomedae island. Interested in the information that Silas just relayed to her, and believeing that he is sincere and truthful, Arran gave Silas money to go and buy his friends for her, as they would be returning to the Island of Iomedae to find this alternate Dasphemy.

Back on the J.E.B., Dominic revealed to Bryntwulf that his objective in this plane was to kill Good Dasphemy. Dominic and Bryntwulf made a loose allianced to track down Dasphemy together. Soon they docked at Wolf-Water around the same time that the party had, and Bryntwulf and Dominic met up with them. There Dominic claimed that Miranda was going to be her commander, as she had the most relation to Dasphemy, and seemed to be the most well read there. She told him to go to the desert town on the outskirts of the Solaris and stop an impending Iomedae Faithful attack, and to also scout a base of operations for them out. At this point Dominic began to head out toward Solaris.

Once everything was established, and the party at long last Regrouped. They returned to the Sand Demon. After they set sail, Miranda made an offer to Arran, who has been stragnely cordial to her, to buy one of her Prisoners, a Rogue Ranger named Saira. Arran was hesitant, but accepted her offer. Miranda gained another soldier under her employ as they set off toward the Island of Iomedae to once again, Retrieve Dasphemy.

Operation Lone Wolf

With the J.E.B. out to sea, and no friends in sight, Nalith was hard pressed to find a silver lining in his cloud. Behind enemy lines, he found himself trapped in an alley, with paladins on either side of him.

While contemplating his next move, Nalith was attacked from the side by the Prototype, and sent flying into a building, where he laid at the feet of 2 paladins.

Nalith used the prototype as a distraction to get up and run up stairs while the paladins tried to dispatch the prototype. He made his way up stairs and was able to convince a Sergeant of the Iomedae faithful that he was on their side against the prototype. They then teamed up to dispatch him and take out the transmitter that was allowing him to keep regenerating.

Once the battle with the prototype was over, one of the Paladin soldiers turned on Nalith, claiming that he was a "Blasphemous Heretic!". Nalith retreated into the building and battled the paladin on the first floor, hoping that the paladins up stairs could not hear the battle. In a close fight, Nalith manage to put an arrow into the paladins head, killing her.

Nalith turned to two large chests in the room he retreated into, both of them had adventuring gear for paladins of Iomedae. He decided to take 2 swords and the gold from the gear in both chests and continue searching the first floor.

Nalith entered a room to discover a couple familiar faes, Sir Anslem and Sir Galthas. They had been captured, stripped of their gear, and bound in this room. Nalith cut their bindings and re geared them with the gear that he found in the room prior. Together, they then decided to clear out the rest of the building, scavenge all the intel that they could find, and head towards the coast to go into hiding and figure things out from there.

Once they left the building with 3 pieces of intel, they were spotted by Lieutenant Winterfall, and she gave chase after them.

During the chase, Winterfall had caught up to them, and Anselm let himself be recaptured in an effort to keep the mission going. The same happened to Galthas sometime later. Using Anselm and Galthas' sacrifices, Nalitch managed to escape to the coast and find a cavern that he could hide in. He is currently reviewing the intel he has gathered.

The Battle for Iomedae's Child

Learning the location of Dasphemy, the adventuring party made their way to Iomedae Island, an island dominated by Iomedae's faithful. They decided to speak with the High Priestess.

During a private conversation with the High Priestess, the party's paladin Ruthos, confessed his doubts about his teachings and his doubts in the High Priestess. He also confessed to distrusting the rogue of the party, Fletcher Green. This angered the High Priestess, who had Ruthos and the rest of the party placed under arrest.

Presented to the Priestess in the Grand Chapel, The Priestess found out that the party was searching for Dasphemy. She had Ruthos escorted to the dungeon for what he believed to be a trial by combat.

Escorted to a cell by Persival, Sir Anselm, and Sir Galthas, he was thrown into a cell with an unknown man. Assuming this was his trial by combat, he lunged at the man with his sword, and was quickly disarmed and planted on the ground. The man was revealed to be a tortured Dasphemy.

Working with Galthas, Anselm, Persival, and the adventuring party, Dasphemy decided to try and escape the island. On the main level of the church an epic battle took place, where the High Priestess fell at Dasphemy and Ruthos' hands.

Shortly after the battle, the party's wizard, Silas, ran into the Chapel warning of an entirely seperate battle going on outside. Pirate forces fighting under the pirate lord Pykota had begun sieging the island. A Rogue Paladin was slaughtering Iomedae forces, and a robotic metal man was fighting toward the chapel.

After being informed of the chaos taking place outside the Chapel, The rogue paladin showed up behind Silas. He was revealed to be Dasphemy's brother, Dominic, and was hear to kill Dasphemy. During a staredown between the two brothers. Another unknown force came into the Chapel, a large, robotic humanoid. "Target located" it spouted as its eyes locked on Dapshemy and began its approach. Dominic moved to intercept, but as the two met. A stray cannon shot burst through the chapel wall and landed at their feet.

Once the dust settled, Dominic gained his composure, the robot lay in ruin, and Dasphemy was no where to be found.

Trying to salvage what was left of the mission, the party decided to try and make their way back to the boat to escape the island.

In the chaos, only 3 made it back to the boat, Dominic, the party's fighter Bryntwulf, and the Party's Druid, Shadow's Cat. The boats captain, Jeb, decided that they needed to leave with the party members that they have, because staying there any longer would result in complete failure.

Shadow had made it to the boat with Dominic and her cat, but was blown off by cannon fire while trying to hold off attacking paladins. Her whereabouts are unknown currently.

Ruthos, Fletcher Green, and Silas made it to the docks only to see the boat leave. Stuck between returning paladins from the boat and approaching paladins from the city, the 3 had no choice but to make for the coast line in an effort to hide from them. Their status is currently unknown.

Nalith, who was far behind the entire party, found himself in an alley with no bearing on where to go. While contemplating his next move, He was attacked and thrown into a nearby building by the robot. His Status is currently unknown.

Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
